
| FDR, WWII, a smattering of color films. As was the case during the Great Depression, people turned to films - this time to escape the stresses of food rations and worldwide apocalyptic events. Patriotic war films abounded, while Divas of the Silver Screen became pin-up girls to lift the spirits of lonely soldiers. Lockers, wallets and tents were spattered with images of Betty Grable, Myrna Loy, Hedy Lamarr and many others. Many Hollywood icons traveled to military bases and encampments for the famed USO shows to entertain the troops.
