Stunningly lovely in a classic sense- evoking the Hollywood beauties of past eras, Jessica Lange is truly a reigning Diva of class and elegance. Born in 1949, in Cloquet, Minnesota, as a child she was repeatedly relocated by her father's profession as a traveling salesman. Instead of following through on her scholarship to the University of Minnesota, she chose to travel to Paris and study drama. Returning stateside, she settled in New York and worked as a model. She took the lead role in King Kong in 1976, a fairly loyal remake of the 1933 original. Unfortunately, the film was panned by critics. It is actually a pretty good film, the story-line of a classic, tragic nature that stands on it's own integrity. Publicity around the film included intriguing by stories such as malfunctions with the mechanical ape hand during filming, when apparently it was feared that she might be crushed. A couple of years later she appeared in Bob Fosse's All That Jazz. Her true prowess as an actress revealed itself to the public when she appeared in The Postman Always Rings twice, a remake of an earlier film that remains a noir classic to this day, based on the 1934 novel by the same name. Soon after, she received glowing reviews as the role of Frances Farmer in Frances. She went on to perform in Tootsie, Sweet Dreams, and Music Box. She played the distressed housewife in Cape Fear, yet another remake of the classic 1962 film by the same title. She continues to garner roles in prominent, quality motion pictures, more recently in Titus, Prozac Nation and the wonderfully stirring Big Fish. Throughout her career, she continues to interpret each role with a reliable dignity and finesse.
