Brigitte
Bardot worked as a model in the 40's and early 50's before starting
her film career to become the most well-known French actress in
the industry. Her first film role, in Le Trou Normand came in
1952 when she was only 17 years old. Her carreer was nurtured
by her long-time lover and then husband Roger Vadim. Their involvement
was seen as scandalous by some because Mr. Vadim was much older
than Bardot. Through the early fifties she was in several films,
such as Act
of Love (1953), Tradita (1954), and The Female and
the Flesh (1955). She often appeared nearly nude, and bared all in the famous And God Created Woman in 1957. Her private life was
was public fodder, with affairs and short marraiges. She was a
sex symbol in the US throughout the 60's, in spite of the fact
that nearly all of her films were French. In all, she appeared
in at least 45 movies. Finally, with her carreer having gradually
diminished, she starred in Histoire très bonne et très
joyeuse de Colinot Trousse-Chemise, L', after which she officially
retaired from the film business. She has gone on to be outspoken
politically, occasionally causing a ruckus. She much prefers life
out of the spotlight.
